McClain Gallery is pleased to present an installation of works by Christian Eckart, including examples from his continuing Fragment, Detail Painting, and Zootrope series.
Additionally, studies and models related to a recently completed sculpture installed inside the Cohen Brother's Realty building at 805 3rd Avenue in Manhattan, NYC, will be on view. IntersectingOrbits is made of mirror-polished stainless steel and aluminum, with the entire piece measuring approximately 20 feet in diameter. Monumental in scale, the sculpture slowly rotates inside the atrium, providing the viewer with an ever-changing vantage point.
Originally from Western Canada; Christian graduated from the Alberta College of Art in 1984 and then immediately moved to New York City. While in New York, he received his MFA in painting from Hunter College with Robert Morris as his principle instructor. Eckart now lives and works in Houston. His work is represented in many major collections both public and private including the Guggenheim Museum, New York, the Museum of Modern Art, The New York Public Library, The Chicago Art Institute, The Detroit Institute of Art, The Museum of Fine Art, Houston, Museum Moderner Kunst, Vienna, Austria, Musee d'Art Contemporain, Grenoble, France, The Australian National Gallery, The Eli Broad Foundation, Santa Monica, and many others throughout North America, Europe and Asia.
