Anish Kapoor

Kapoor was born in Bombay, India in 1954. He has been based in London throughout his career, and came to international prominence during the 1980s. Kapoor's work combines a deep love for the properties of the materials he uses - bronze, sandstone, marble, slate, and fiberglass - with the lyrical intensity of vivid pigments. This awareness of form is set off against a delicate understanding of the spiritual and mystical resonances of art. His work often plays with issues of scale, with projects that are monumental in material, size, and concept. Kapoor's project with Art of this Century, Blood Solid, evokes a droplet of blood, with all its corporeal and spiritual potential. Mirror-polished and lacquer-painted to produce a sense of endless depth, this sculpture resonates with the delicate perfection that characterizes Kapoor's practice.
