Julian Schnabel: Amor Misericordioso, the first exhibition in Texas by the internationally known artist since his retrospective exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston in 1988. Amor Misericordioso represents a new body of large scale paintings on canvas incorporating an appropriated photographic image as the emotionally laden ground for Schnabel's gestural painting. Operatic in scale and emotion Schnabel continues his career long efforts to mine the issues of humanity, beauty and loss. Schnabel's work has been exhibited world-wide and has been the subject of retrospective exhibitions at the Tate Gallery, London, The Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, The Whitney Museum of American Art, NY, The Tamayo Museum, Mexico City, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid and numerous other museums. He is an award winning film director with the features Basquiat and Before Night Falls to his credit. Schnabel currently lives and works in New York City and Montauk, New York and San Sebastian, Spain. This exhibition will be on view from January 26 through March 4, 2006. |
