Artist Reception: Thursday, January 22, 6pm to 8pm Conversation with Donald Baechler Catalogue Available McClain Gallery is pleased to announce Donald Baechler's first solo exhibition in Texas. Baechler is admired and respected as one of the most accomplished artists of his generation. He is internationally known for his thickly outlined singular themed subjects of flowers, crowds, trees or ice cream cones, painted over heavily collaged, multi-element backgrounds. Explaining in an interview with Martin Prinzhorn, Baechler says, “...It’s much more interesting to paint over bumps [heavily collaged surfaces] than to paint over a smooth canvas.” His distinctive style produces a universal language of symbols derived from cultural ephemera. This exhibition of major paintings and collages represents the artist’s most recent work. Born in Connecticut in 1956, Baechler studied art in both New York and Germany.
